Duncan, thanks for sharing the lessons learned and your grandmothers story.

My grandma passed away from dementia and related challenges a month ago.

There were so many challenges we faced such as refusal to diagnose before the disease had progressed dramatically, no neurologist appointments, and no access to in home support.

The world deeply needs a solution to this problem.

Thanks for your note Alex. I am really sorry about your grandma. As I learned in our Veronica work, situations like yours are unfortunately common. Optimistic that smart folks will fix things!

Hi Duncan-I came across your substack and this article by way of the Tuck Healthcare Network. Thank you for your transparency with the issues you faced. I recently departed a telepsychiatry company that was facing many of the same headwinds and much of what you wrote resonated with me. I also have a father who has dementia and I see firsthand the incredible challenges of managing this disease. Thank you for trying with Veronica and I hope new solutions continue to come to the market.

This is such a powerful and transparent reflection, Duncan. I really appreciate how you broke down not just the business challenges, but also the personal connections that made Veronica Health’s mission so meaningful. Your lessons on timing, fundraising, and integrating with PCPs are valuable for anyone in healthcare innovation. Dementia care is such a pressing need, and your insights will help guide future entrepreneurs. On a related note, building long-term sustainability also means protecting operations—resources like https://insuredirect.com

can be useful for that side of planning too.
